BRINGING HOPE AND BEAUTY

Most of us will never get to visit the people of Afghanistan; let James Longley bring it to our islands for you.

”What is life like on the ground for ordinary people in another culture, another world? That’s been the bread and butter of observational documentaries for forever, but almost never is it done with the kind of beauty and grace filmmaker James Longley brings to his Afghanistan-set Angels Are Made of Light.” — Kenneth Turan, The Los Angeles Times

Angels Are Made of Light follows students and teachers at a school in an old Kabul neighborhood slowly rebuilding from past conflicts. Interweaving the modern history of Afghanistan with present-day portraits, the film offers an intimate and nuanced vision of a society living in the shadow of war.
