BALLERINAS AND TRIBAL DANCERS PROJECT
Dance has a timeless appeal. It is also considered the most powerful kind of prayer. You dance and you stir up the Universe! Ancient and indigenous people knew it very well. Dance is also a fascinating activity closely connected to the rhythms and melodies of the music. We now know that music is related to math: steps and beats have their inner logic and vibration. Both dance and music express human emotion in a way that goes beyond language differences.
Many artists throughout the centuries paid tribute to the beauty of dance. Did you notice? There are no ugly dances. There are striking, quirky, acrobatic, sad, joyous, energetic dance moves. All of them are beautiful. Ancient artists knew it very well. French impressionist Edgar Degas knew it well, too. Many modern artists strive to draw and paint the glory of dance.
Tribal dance is a prayer to honor the gods of nature, bring the rain and good harvest. Ballet is a refined dance, its moves have been perfected to tell stories and grip our hearts. The ballet and tribal dances are most often performed by professional dancers. However, almost all people love to dance, though, sometimes we feel very shy and become wallflowers.
This simple project is for everybody and especially for those who are shy to dance themselves! Not only you'll show how beautifully the human form is revealed during the dance, but you'll be able to dress your dancers!
This particular project has been inspired by my parent's viewing of Ballet of the Dagomei( Benin). In a very innovative way, it combined a tribal African dance with ballet.
Family Art Days offer the community free, imaginative projects for children with their family members.
Inspired by SJIMA’s Fall exhibitions on the human figure September 24 - December 6, Family Art Days (FAD) art pact pick-ups are on Saturdays beginning October 2 - December 18.
THIS REGISTRATION IS FOR THE TAKE-HOME ART PACK.
Participation is free, but registration is necessary as supplies are limited.
